HPV Vaccine Fact Sheet Discusses New Recommendation for Vaccinating Boys
Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011 | Health Insurance | Comments Off
The Kaiser Family Foundation has updated its fact sheet on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine coverage and financing and includes the new recommendation from the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) that boys and young men be vaccinated against the virus.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved two vaccines against infection by certain strains of HPV, the most common sexually transmitted infection in the United States. Initially, the vaccines were recommended only for girls and young women, but new recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been broadened to include boys and young men. The fact sheet also discusses HPV and cancers related to the virus, use of the HPV vaccines for both females and males, and insurance coverage and access to the vaccines.
Locally the HPV vaccine is available at the Mesa County Health Dept and many physicians offices.

The average McDonald’s patron guessed 876 calories when the real count was 1,093. By comparison, the typical Subway customer estimated 495 calories when the real count was 677—much higher than her guess!

Thursday, November 17th, 2011 | Personal Insurance | Comments Off
The Fiat 500, a minicar introduced by Chrysler in the U.S. market for the 2012 model year, earns the Institute’s top safety award for good performance in front, side, rollover, and rear impact evaluations, and for having electronic stability control as standard equipment.
The award applies to 500s built after July 2011 because the driver’s seat structure was modified to improve occupant protection in both frontal and rear-end crashes.
The 500 along with the Ford Fiesta are the only minicars to earn the Top Safety Pick designation.

We tend to eat more, drink more, fit more parties and activities in, spend more money, sleep less and forget about weight loss. Fire Prevention Tips: Smoke Alarms
Saturday, November 5th, 2011 | Personal Insurance | Comments Off
It is very important to have a working smoke alarm with a working battery in your home. If you have that, it greatly lowers your chances of dying in a fire.
Follow these 10 easy tips on smoke alarms:
- One of the best ways to protect yourself and your family is to have a working smoke alarm that can sound fast for both a fire that has flames, and a smoky fire that has fumes without flames. It is called a “Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm.”
- Place a smoke alarm on the ceiling of every level of your home and outside bedrooms. Children and older people can sleep though the loud sound of a smoke alarm. Make sure your escape plan includes someone that can help children and others wake up immediately to escape from the home.
